'Box Girl' ROCKS 'Sand & Sawdust' Festival, USA ... 2002
… aka: ‘Cheesy Chicks’ …
My second ever ‘chainsaw carving’ was one of my ‘Girls’ back in 1997. Since then I have carved and painted (or not) dozens of female figures, but it wasn’t until 2002 that the tag of the ‘Cheesy Chick’ was to evolve … and stick. This was due to my amazement upon my first visit to the United States where I was overwhelmed by the number of bears that are carved and sold in that country. Growling bears, bears in clothes, bears pulling their pants own, bears holding toilet rolls and signs saying welcome, git-r-done & wipe yer paws … and many many more.
So I asked my new buddy Dave Tremko (an amazing carver) “Why all the cheesy bears?”
And he responded with a shrug … “They sell !! ... Your chicks are sorta cheesy too you know !”
And it stuck !!
'First Girl' above and right ...
Cheesy Chicks are provocative and sometimes erotic … but never pornographic or derogatory.

... me with two of the 'Fancy Dress Set' ... 'Jail Bird' & 'Bug Girl #1' ... 2002
'Surfer Girl' was carved at the 'WestCoast Big One' in 2005 ... the last of an event that ran for 16 years and paved the way for many of the carvers and carving events around the world.
'Basking Mermaid' was created over 3 days in 2006 at the annual Ocean Shores 'Sand & Sawdust Festival', where over a crazy weekend chainsaw carvers onland and sand carvers on sand (the beach) compete for prize money and glory. This piece was carved form a beautiful big chunk of western red cedar and stole 9th place from a very tough field of 28 wickedly talented pro carvers (there is also a semi-pro division) from around the world.
'Clown Girl on Skates' ... 3rd place in the circus themed
Reedsport Oregon Divisional International Chainsaw Carving Comp of 2004 in the USA
'Rocket Girl' ... In the snow at the Vous ... 2007
